Medwyn Goodall » The Essence of Magic

A rock, modern inspired style that follows the path of a thunderstorm. Brilliant and passionate guitar solo's.

"That unique brief atmosphere of nature's tension and release. That is what 'Essence of Magic' is all about, a passing cloudburst. When the power of nature seems most alive to us.

Musically the album is a further exciting blend of electronic, rock and jazz influences. Similar to my album 'Millennium', yet different again, an experience a fusion of new ideas that redefine the boundaries of the new age perhaps. Enjoy the journey."

ever since i heard the millenium cd i've been hooked. being
a recording musician myself, i'm completely blown away at the amount of
music he puts out year after year and each release sounds as fresh as the
previous one. keep it coming!

I usually listen to smooth jazz and jazzrock. Then i came
across music of Ian Lynn. That was my first encouter with new age music.
Now i discovered Medwyn's music. I am totally of my feet. This album is
jazzy and rocks through my head. Great!

I have already posted a review here on this particular CD
but had to post another due to the experience I had earlier this evening
listening to it. I did my usual thing, turning off all the lights and
sitting back in my big listening chair and setting the volume to a level
that fills the room entirely with clean, clear and alive-like sound. As
the opening sequence of rain and thunder slowly crept into the room I
imagined myself in a cave up on the side of a mountain on a dark, stormy
night with a full moon trying to shine thru the storm clouds overhead.
Below me was a valley shrouded in shadows that danced everywhere as the
moon's light was cast thru the trees and bushes. I had a fire burning at
the mouth of the cave and it too cast some eery shadows on the walls
around me. I could feel and sense the magic of the night and the storm as
it grew more intense with each track on the CD. It was almost like I was
"in" the music and had become part of it. Millinium is still my favorite
CD by Medwyn but lately I have found myself being totally enchanted and
more and more capitivated by Essence of Magic. This is one of Medwyn's
best CDs and one that should be in anyone's collection that enjoys his
music. As I have stated prior, Medwyn is my most favorite new age artist
and his music both inspires me and takes me to new areas in listening that
I have never been before. Medwyn, if your reading this, you do need to
schedule a tour and come to Sacramento, CA. I will be first in line to buy
tickets, guaranteed!!!!

I recently added this CD to my growing MG collection. Once
again I find myself totally absorbed into the music. Different from his
other CDs this one once again displays Medwyn's multi-talents as a
composer/musician. Yes I listened to it in a darkened room and yes the
volume was turned up so it was as he was there in my listening room.
Another wonderful listening experience to put me on the trail of my next
MG purchase for certain........

Now for something completely different…..

“Essence Of Magic “ is a landmark in the evolution of new age music and performance. Whilst now not unique in it’s style the creative drive and vision that so clearly went into this album in 2000 has never been replicated. Ingenious use of keyboard fused with electric guitar and an evocative "modern" percussion really grab the attention and make all who hear the album sit up and take notice. The music celebrates the power of the thunderstorm and the magic that flows in the air during the time of such tempest.

Over 6 tracks and 48 minutes of music the CD shatters the clichie of what defines a new age sound and sets new standards in presentation and performance. It achieves this by clever usage of natural sounds and specially crafted tones echoing through Medwyns impressive synth set up; Overlaid with some incredible electric guitar riffs which would be more at home on a rock album than a new age release and the whole thing is paced perfectly to reflect the ever changing mood of the storm. This album by traditional convention shouldn't work but somehow Medwyn makes it all fuse together to present an audible experience which is simply electrifying.

Considered by many to be his greatest trilogy, Medicine Woman 3 is the final CD in this magnificent musical journey.

A musical celebration of womanhood and the power of the goddess presented in a way that none other than Medwyn Goodall could have achieved.

Brilliant and inspired in every way from the art of the CD cover to the uplifting healing and empowering performance given on the album itself.

Medwyn pushed himself to the limit in early 2005 to produce this album pooling all his musical talent into what sounds like an endless stream of instruments and influences. The result was more than any of his fans and even those new to his music could have ever hoped for.

There are perhaps 4 artists in the world capable of matching Medicine Woman 3 for composition, presentation and performance. Of these 4 only Yanni has succeeded In matching the depth with his song “Nightingale” and only John Williams could compare to Medwyn’s composition.

This album is far to spectacular to cheapen with excessive words, listen to it for yourself and understand.
